Dovilė Šopytė

For ten years I worked on the pattern and production side of womenswear. I ran my own label and presented two collections at London Fashion Week with Fashion Scout, after working on design and production for other brands. Having been the brand that places the sample orders is how I learned which notes a factory follows, and which ones come back as a question three weeks later.

Before you order.

How does an order work?

You send a brief for one style: a short questionnaire and a sketch or clear reference. I review each request and approve it before work starts. It is not an instant booking. You receive a fixed quote within 24 hours of the brief. After you confirm, I build the 3D sample, and if you ordered it, the factory tech pack that goes with it.

What do I need to provide to start?

A sketch or a clear reference of the garment, and notes on the style: what it is, the base size you want to work from, and any fabric or construction decisions you have already made. The more specific the brief, the fewer questions come back before the quote.

What is the difference between a 3D sample and a factory tech pack?

A 3D virtual sample is the garment built in 3D so you can approve look and fit before anyone cuts fabric. It is €190. A factory tech pack is the set of pages a workroom sews from. The combined offer is €490 and includes the 3D sample plus lead, flats, construction, seams, spec, BOM, labels, colourways and grade rules. Base-size patterns are an optional add-on for €150.

What is a tech pack?

A tech pack is the set of pages a factory uses to sew a garment the same way every time. It is not a sketch, and it is not only a 3D sample. The pack writes down construction, measurements, materials and finishes so the workroom does not have to invent them.

Are patterns and grade rules included?

Grade rules come with the factory tech pack. They are written as a base size and a step, so the factory can grade the size run. A full graded set of patterns is not included. Base-size patterns in DXF or PDF are an optional add-on for €150.

How do I send a design to a factory?

A factory needs more than a sketch. Send a pack they can sew from: flats, construction notes, a spec, a bill of materials, labels, colourways and grade rules. The 3D sample is how you approve the garment first, so the pages match a look you have already seen.
